EPRI Invitation for Commission Staff-only Briefing

You are invited to join EPRI Senior Vice President of Global Strategy & External Relations Hank Courtright and Director of Washington & State Relations Barbara Tyran for a discussion of "The Power System of the Future."

With some power grid technologies dating back to Thomas Edison, the electricity sector has embraced the challenge and opportunity to seek new and better ways to generate, deliver and use power. Utilities are beginning the gradual development and deployment of a smart grid that uses information and communication technologies to provide new levels of efficiency, resilience and reliability. Given the complexity and scale of the systems involved , the "interoperability" among the various systems and devices is key to successful implementation. Research is addressing interoperability issues while furthering innovation in grid modernization. Ultimately, researchers envision a system in which generation is more distributed, grid operators can "see" and respond to conditions in real time, and consumers will be afforded many more options in managing their energy use.
